Rifugio Benigni

Cesare Benigni Hut is located inside the Bergamo Orobie Park (www.parcorobie.it) and set at the beginning of a small plateau that, starting from the lake Piazzotti stretches out among  Salmurano valley and Tronella valley, right on the border between Bergamo and Sondrio provinces. Amongst rocks, lawns, waterholes and ibex you enjoy a magnificent view extending from the peaks of Masino-Bregaglia group, to Disgrazia, to Valmalenco, up to embrace the whole of Orobie mountains, reaching the plain.

It is a stop-over of trail 101 of Western Orobie and can be reached in 2-3 hours from different access points, both in upper Brembana valley and from Gerola valley and, taking a little longer time, also from Valsassina and from San Marco pass; for this reason, it’s ideal destination for hikes of different types: the simple excursion with same-day return, the overnight stay in the hut, the round tour of one or more days, or the crossing.
In the vicinity, you can find several climbing routes, some of them are assisted (reports available in hut), and copious peaks, reachable according to the most various difficulties: Piazzotti peak (2349 m, 20′), Trona summit (2510 m, 2 hours and 30′), Tre Signori summit (2554 m, 3 hours), Valletto mount (2371 m, 1 hour and 30′), Giacomo summit (2184 m, 1 hour). During the ascent to the hut you will come across several animals: a large amount of marmots and ibex, and when few people are around, if you are lucky, even chamois, birds of prey, woodland fowl, foxes, deers..
